Aleshin in 'serious but stable' condition
30 August 2014 – SMP Racing driver Mikhail Aleshin is in a 'serious but stable' condition following a violent accident during practice for the IndyCar Series finale in Fontana.
Aleshin's accident came during the final practice session of the weekend; he had just completed a lap of 215.303mph when he lost control of the car on the inside line. He slid and collected Charlie Kimball into the SAFER Barrier, with his car going airborne and into the catch fencing.
Aleshin was conscious while he was being airlifted to the Loma Linda University Medical Center and has been diagnosed with a concussion, fractured ribs, a broken right clavicle and chest injuries, according to IndyCar medical consultant Dr. Terry Trammell.
