Schmidt, Aleshin mutually agree to split
13 August 2017 – Schmidt Peterson Motorsports has announced that Mikhail Aleshin will not compete for the team in IndyCar across the remainder of the 2017 campaign.
Aleshin has started 46 IndyCar races – all with SPM – since making his debut in the category in 2014, claiming two podiums, and a high of 15th in last year's championship.
Aleshin missed practice at Road America amid visa issues, having participated at Le Mans the previous week, and did not take part in last month's Toronto round.
The Russian will now focus on the nascent LMP1 project involving his backers, SMP Racing, along with BR Engineering and Dallara.
SPM stated that the decision to split was mutual.
Colombian racer Sebastián Saavedra substituted for Aleshin in Toronto but SPM has yet to name a replacement driver for the remaining four events.
