Organisers of the Le Mans Series have announced that Giancarlo Fisichella will be joining the championship as a full-time driver this season. The Italian therefore leaves Formula 1 as a racer, having been involved every season since making his debut for Minardi in 1996.
After transferring from Force India to Ferrari for the final five races of last year, Fisichella had hoped to secure a race seat with another team for 2010 by being loaned from Ferrari; his former squad and Sauber had been the favourites although their line-ups are already established.
Despite the Roman's Le Mans Series arrival having been confirmed, the class and team with which he will compete is yet to be revealed although Ferrari and sister company Maserati run operations in the GT2 and GT1 classes, respectively.
