Edwards fastest on day 1

Tech 3 Yamaha rider Colin Edwards was the man to beat at Phillip Island on Wednesday. The American completed 77 laps Down Under and was well ahead of the rest. Casey Stoner ended second in the time sheets, half a second ahead of Gresini rider Alex de Angelis.

The MotoGP rookie riders enjoyed a strong day in Australia. Alex de Angelis, Andrea Dovizioso and James Toseland finished third, fourth and fifth at the end of the day. It was a day of testing under perfect sunny conditions without any major incidents.
