Toseland okay after scary accident

30 March 2009

James Toseland is making a recovery following his testing crash at Jerez on Sunday. The Tech 3 Yamaha rider lost control of his bike at Turn 3 of the Spanish circuit, highsiding before landing head first on a kerb, ending up in the gravel trap.

Toseland was dealt with trackside by doctors who felt it best that the English was examined most closely, with heavy bruising having been sustained. "Unfortunately it was the same kind of crash to what he had at the Sepang test, and it hurt him" Team Principal Herve Poncharal explained. "It was his first timed lap after leaving the pits with a fresh rear tyre; it looks like he should hopefully be okay, even though he was motionless in the gravel for a little while."

Having been transfered from the circuit to Cadiz hospital, the rider - like Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa - is now making a steady recover. "Crashing is certainly not the best thing that you can do before starting the first Grand Prix, but we know that James is a fighter," Poncharal continued. "He will be there for the first race and, even though we are not expecting to win, we will try to pick up a few points."
