Kallio pleased to be back

17 July 2009

Mika Kallio is looking forward to riding Germany's Sachsenring on Friday afternoon as the field prepares for first practice ahead of the German Grand Prix. The 26-year-old Pramac man missed the last race in the United States due to a finger-breaking crash at Assen, so is keen to make amends.

Currently 15th in the championship standings, chances for points do not come every day for the Pramac team although a rare opportunity was lost with Kallio's last lap fall in the Netherlands just under three weeks ago. Mika's enthusiasm has not been dampened, though, especially as his badly burned and broken finger continues to heal.

"It is so nice to be back," said the Finn. "I can't wait to step back onto my Ducati Desmosedici. The situation with my finger has improved a lot and I feel ready to ride; I would say that I am at 90% of my physical condition - I will have to wear a special glove made by Alpinestar with much more space for my left ring finger due to the big bandage I have on it.

"For sure, in the next few weeks I would not be able to get married as the ring would never fit! This circuit is very nice and I found my self at ease since my first few races here. In 2005 I stepped on the highest step of the 125cc podium and in 2007, after starting from pole position, I finished second in the 250cc class."
