Aspar-Ducati satellite deal imminent

Aspar-Ducati satellite deal imminent

22 July 2009

Jorge Martinez's Aspar team may finally sign a deal to move into the top class next season with the Spaniard now looking to run with Ducati bikes for his satellite squad. The outfit engaged in talks with Kawasaki in January although chances of making progress with Ducati now look highly likely.

"The idea is to work with Ducati and we are going forward with this plan," Martinez told the official MotoGP website at the Sachsenring last weekend. "We have to tie up the last few details - the matter of the rider more than anything - and we hope to be able to announce something at Donington at the latest." The possibility looks like, especially after Ducati's loss of the Onde 2000 satelitte team, which pulled out of MotoGP last week.

Although Martinez did not suggest any names, a likely candidate for the ride would be current 250cc hotshot Álvaro Bautista, whose management is believed to be in talks with a number of team managers in the top 800cc class.
