De Puniet delighted with podium result

26 July 2009

As Andrea Dovizioso clinched his first ever MotoGP win at Donington Park on Sunday, France's Randy de Puniet brought his satellite LCR Honda home in third position after a chaotic race.

"For me it's perfect to be on the podium after my crash at the Sachsenring," he said after the final British Grand Prix at Donington Park. "We need to continue like this. I know the next races will not be the same but we can be happy with this."

With only 1.6 seconds covered the top three men, it was a dramatic way for Donington to sign off before handing its race to Silverstone in 2010. "When I saw Dovi maybe six seconds in front of me, I said 'okay, second place is okay for me!'," Randy added.

"Then I saw my pit board and saw Colin was coming too fast and I thought 'S***, if I want to keep my podium, I need to push!' This helped me to catch Dovi but it was too late and also the last two laps were so slippery, especially on the left side, and I was lucky to finish."
