James Toseland, Britain's only representative in MotoGP, has freely admitted that performances must improve in order to impressive enough to retain his Tech3 Yamaha ride for 2010. The Yorkshireman is currently twelfth in the World Championship standings and 48 points behind American team-mate Colin Edwards.
With Edwards up in the top five of the championship after the British Grand Prix, 28-year-old Toseland - who was a nominee for BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2007 - understands what is requested of him. "I didn't want the summer break, I wanted to go straight from Donington to Brno to keep the momentum going," he said on Wednesday ahead of this weekend's race in the Czech Republic.
Having entered MotoGP last year as a double World Superbike Champion, the transition has not been an easy one for the Doncaster man, who finished 11th overall in 2009. "I've had a tough start with some crashes and injuries in the winter tests and it's nice to see things coming together again now," he added, of his current campaign. "I need it to come together to keep my job in MotoGP."
