Pasini satisfied with first test
18 August 2009 – Mattia Pasini was pleased following his first ever run on an 800cc MotoGP bike at Brno on Monday. The Italian, who is currently competing in the 250cc World Championship, took part in the session for the Pramac team to discover that the most noticeable difference is the brakes of top tier machine.
A fastest lap time of 1.59.614, almost three and a half seconds slower than quickest rider Jorge Lorenzo, placed Pasini an expected 13th and last of the riders on track in the Czech Republic although the Rimini rider, who celebrated his 24th birthday last Thursday, was pleased with his first attempt.
"I am happy with what I could do," Pasini said after finishing the day only 1.5 seconds down on the first Pramac bike of Niccolò Canepa. "Obviously I'm not going to be setting pole position times as I'm just starting. The hardest thing at the moment is braking. The riding position is also totally different to being on a 250cc bike but the team had already prepared the machine on Sunday night to suit my body shape."
With regular Pramac rider Mika Kallio continuing to ride the factory Ducati bike of the absent Casey Stoner for at least another two races, how does Mattia rate his chances of a race ride? "I'm not sure yet but I would not rule it out," he concluded.
