De Angelis heads morning warm-up

Honda Gresini rider Alex de Angelis surprised a few at Phillip Island by topped the morning warm-up session ahead of the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday. The San Marinese rider led the way with a lap time of 1:30.807, edging out local favourite Casey Stoner and championship leader Valentino Rossi.

Under an overcast sky and with a track temperature of 19°C (66°F), some 13°C (55°F) lower than in qualifying on Saturday, de Angelis - who is sixth on the grid - led pole holder Stoner by 0.123 with Rossi a further 0.143 behind the Aussie.

Rossi's Fiat Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, who has struggled with rear grip issues and his physical condition throughout the weekend, mirrored his grid position of fourth, while Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa was fifth.

Randy de Puniet and Colin Edwards were next in line, with Toni Elías, Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso also finishing inside the top ten.
