Casey Stoner believes the full-time arrival of Ben Spies in MotoGP could be one to watch out for. The 2007 Champion, who looks forward to challenging for the title once again after being out of action with medical problems for three races this year, will be keeping a keen eye on the American.
With Spies transferring to MotoGP as title holder in the World Superbike Championship, the Texas man is hoping to deliver where former Superbike men James Toseland and Chris Vermeulen generally failed to do so in 2009.
"I'm really impressed and he's doing a great job," Stoner told MCN of Spies, who claimed 7th place on a satellite Yamaha in a one-off showing at Valencia just over a month ago.
"I told him earlier in the season that there was no point racing World Superbikes again - he was the fastest guy out there and there was nothing more to do. Now is the time to step up to a bigger challenge, so we'll see what he's capable of."
Furthermore, Australian Stoner is sure that the 25-year-old's persona will suit his riding style. "He is very quiet and humble and just loves the sport for the racing, like myself, and doesn't like the rest of the things," Casey explained. "He knows what challenge he has ahead of him and he's going to do everything in his power to make the most of it."
