The Scot Racing Team has confirmed that Alex de Angelis will be switching from the MotoGP category to join its Moto2 project for the 2010 season. With the class replacing what was previously the 250cc group, the San Marinese rider is looking forward to the quest.
After finishing eighth overall in MotoGP with the Honda Gresini satellite team in 2009, de Angelis will move down to Moto2 after spending two seasons in the top category of the sport, before moving back to MotoGP for 2011.
"I am happy to collaborate on a project where I am the standard-bearer of my nation," the 25-year-old explained. "Also, in a sense, I could define the Scot Racing Team as my home team: I have known everyone for years and some of them drink their coffee in my own bar! They have won two World Championship titles and now we are working together to build a winning project for 2010, a prelude to my return to MotoGP the following year."
"It's a long time since we started thinking of Alex de Angelis as rider for our team," added Team Manager Cirano Mularoni. "It is San Marino's dream, which we would have been happy to accomplish in MotoGP but which will start in the new class, Moto - an innovative class which I think will offer a very interesting show.
"Our team, with a world title, aspires to the strongest available riders, not only to try to keep the record but also to participate in this new adventure." Also moving from MotoGP to Moto2 is 21-year-old Niccolò Canepa, as the Italian rode for Pramac during the 2009 season.
