Capirossi frustrated by 'absurd' rules

21 January 2010

Loris Capirossi is irritated by MotoGP's current regulations which restrict testing and, in addition, believes that Suzuki holds no chance of catching its rivals unless a modification to the rules is made. The Italian is sure that the likes of Yamaha, Ducati and Honda will remain at the top unless particular action is taken.

With Suzuki thriving to improve its overall performance, its rider is positive that fault lies in the hands of the rule-makers, who he believes make bike improvements close to impossible. "You're not allowed to test with the race riders and the last straw is the absurd rule of six engines per season," Capirossi told Motosprint.

"How can you develop a new engine - or anything for that matter - if you have to follow such rules? We had huge reliability problems in the second half of 2009, so how can you develop an engine if it's already sealed? That's what's limiting us.

"They're working like crazy in Japan and at Sepang (first test) we'll have a prototype with many new parts - but then we'll only have six days of testing available.

"If, by Qatar, we haven't been able to make it work then we'll have to keep an unsorted bike, which hasn't been developed properly, for the whole season - that's neither nice nor fair. Actually, it makes no sense at all. I lay the blame with the rule book because it's all so wrong - the limits on sessions and engines are ruining this championship badly."
