I can put up a fight, says Melandri

After following up from his disastrously embarrassing start to the season in Qatar with a more respectable eighth place finish in Spain, Marco Melandri is positive that the Honda Gresini team can continue to produce competitive signs as the championship heads on to France.

After the team, fans and Melandri himself questioned his terrible start to 2010, the Italian received a confidence booster when he was able to fight in the middle of the pack last time out.

"Things are looking much more optimistic after the last race at Jerez and I was happy with the test we did there on the Monday," Marco began.

"I think my feeling with the Honda RC212V is much better compared to the first two races and we are starting to learn about the things we need to change to improve it."

Admitting that the squad now heads to tracks on which it has collected no winter testing data, Melandri expects fine-tuning bike setups to become 'more difficult for everybody' but also keeps an eye open for adverse weather conditions whilst remaining realistic.

"Naturally I'm not going to Le Mans feeling totally convinced we will come away with a great result but I feel confident that I can put up a fight, like I did at Jerez, but this time higher up the order," summed up the 2006 French Grand Prix winner.
