Kallio braced for tough 20th race

3 June 2010

Mika Kallio regrets entering his 20th MotoGP race carrying an injury although that is exactly what the Finn must put up with this weekend, following his incident in Saturday's free practice session last time out at Jerez.

13th in the race and last of the finishers over the line in Spain, Kallio is currently 12th and just ahead of 2007 Champion Casey Stoner in the overall standings although the former is annoyed to be battling against pain as well as his rivals.

"It's a shame to reach this goal with the shoulder in these conditions," he said ahead of career race number 20.

"I have subjected myself to certain therapies and medical care to feel less pain but I cannot lift or bend my arm so well; I hope that, on Sunday, I'll feel less pain so that will allow me to ride in the best way possible."

On top of this, the Pramac man now heads to a circuit on which he has enjoyed no considerable amount of success in past years. "I've never had an outstanding result - my best finish was fourth place in 2008 on a 250cc," he said of Italy's Mugello.

"Last year I had some bad luck, having started the race in seventeenth; I had made a good comeback, I was in the sixth after nine laps and had a good race pace but I slipped on the tenth lap and lost several positions."
