Melandri keen to make successful Barcelona comeback

30 June 2010

Marco Melandri is confident that he will be able to take part in this weekend’s Catalan Grand Prix despite missing last Saturday’s round at Assen after fracturing his shoulder.

The Italian Gresini rider sustained injury when high-siding at the new Ruskenhoek part of track in Holland; forced to sit out of the race as a result, optimism is now up as the Circuit de Catalunya prepares to bring the curtain down on a trio of back-to-back races.

“I go to Barcelona with the intention of forgetting the latest disappointment at Silverstone and Assen,” Melandri began. “I'll have to see how comfortable I am in the saddle after crashing in The Netherlands but my determination and desire to come back is great.

“In these last few days I have come through a long rehabilitation with the shoulder. Unfortunately, I'm not in the best physical condition, but I will still take to the track with great determination.

“I really want to pick up where I left off in Assen, where I further realised that we had chosen the right path to go down in developing the bike. I hope to be fit and continue the work and I’m convinced we’ll end up satisfied.”
