Casey Stoner finished Friday as the second-quickest runner in Germany although the Australian is sure that Ducati must work non-stop in order to stay as close to the front of the field for the remainder of the weekend.
With the Yamahas of Lorenzo and returning World Champion Rossi sixth and seventh, fellow title winners Stoner and team-mate Nicky Hayden finished second and third to P1 man Dani Pedrosa, with the 2007 victor’s best lap turning out to be two and a half tenths of a second off the leading pace.
“In general the bike felt pretty good for most of the session today but we need to make a few improvements,” Stoner explained.
“As usual, we seem to have one part of the bike working very well at the start and then, when we try to improve in other areas, we make the good part worse and struggle for a compromise.
“In general, like I say, we’re pretty happy with the bike – it’s working well but we have work to do if we’re going to get to where we want to be.”
