The Grand Prix commission announced that it will reintroduce the third free practice session again. Since the last of last season MotoGP riders received just two free practice sessions ahead of qualifying but a third practice session will return as early as next month at the Gran Premio A-Style de Aragón.
The third practice session was removed from the Grand Prix schedule by the Grand Prix commission in 2009 to safe costs. The MotoGP riders though believed there was too little time on track ahead of qualifying and the race in order to get a proper set-up and thus, as of next month, the third free practice session will return.
A statement from the Grand Prix commission said: “There will also be a third practice session at this season’s Gran Premio A-Style de Aragón, which takes place September 17th-19th. This schedule has been accepted for Aragón and afterwards we will see if it has worked well, and then possibly implement it again at Valencia and Estoril this year.”
