Dovizioso searching for more of the same pace

24 August 2010

Despite failing to shine at Brno last time out, falling in the early stages before then rejoining and finally retiring, Andrea Dovizioso admits that the potential for much more was lost in the Czech Republic. The Italian now hopes to restore his upbeat prospects for this weekend’s Indianapolis Grand Prix.

Heading to the world-famous venue, Dovizioso is placed fourth in the championship standings and therefore on course for a career-best season. However, last year’s race at Indy yielded a fourth place finishing position and the 24-year-old hopes for at least as much this time around.

“I always look forward to racing in the USA and this time is no different,” he commented. “I like visiting America and the Indianapolis race track is a typical American venue with great facilities and huge grandstands. The MotoGP track is not particularly interesting but the atmosphere is always special.

“If I look back to the Brno Grand Prix I have to say that, except for the final result, it was a good weekend; we were competitive, our race pace was good but the result did not come.

“So we go to Indy determined to transform this good performance into a result. We need strong results for the team and for the championship position.

“Last year I was fourth at Indy in the race but we weren’t as fast as the front runners; Dani (Pedrosa), especially, was very fast but that means we have the potential to do well and it’s an extra motivation for the weekend.”
