Hayden hoping for large points haul in Italy

1 September 2010

Nicky Hayden is yet to finish in the top ten at the San Marino Grand Prix, with last year’s race having been typical of his 2009 campaign as he became the first retirement. However, this weekend the Ducati rider continues his battle for third overall in the championship.

With Honda’s Andrea Dovizioso currently placed third with 126 points, Hayden lies four positions but just 17 points in arrears as Misano’s race comes just a week after that of Indianapolis.

“We have travelled straight from Indianapolis to Italy, so it feels like a short week!” the 2006 World Champion laughed.

“We had a really good pace in race trim during practice and warm-up at Misano last year but I got hit from behind in the race on the Sunday.

“It’s always special to race a Ducati in Italy and I can't wait for it. Last year went like I said and in 2008 I didn't race because of a foot injury, so we'll try to make up for it on Sunday when I'm sure we'll have the support of a lot of fans and a lot of people from Ducati.”
