Suzuki’s Loris Capirossi underwent an operation on Monday following his start crash in the previous day’s San Marino Grand Prix, which confirmed a premature end to his 300th race courtesy of a collision which also involved the Ducati of Nicky Hayden.
Following the shunt, Capirossi was subject to an operation for the fourth finger of his right hand. The Italian now hopes to be fit enough to compete in his 301st Grand Prix at Spain’s Motorland Aragón circuit next weekend.
“I am very angry at what happened today because I was feeling very confident and the bike was good, so I thought we could have a competitive race,” he said after the race at Misano, in which he started 11th of the 17 runners.
“Now I have to have an operation and I hope I can be back for Aragón, but this is nothing compared to what happened in the other race.”
Like all in the MotoGP paddock, Loris remains very much saddened by the tragic death of 19-year-old Shoya Tomizawa in the earlier Moto2 event.
“I want to send my condolences to Tomizawa’s family; this is a great tragedy and something that you never like to hear about,” a downcast Capirossi added.
