The Interwetten Honda satellite team has confirmed that it will be withdrawing from the sport’s top class at the end of the current season in order to concentrate fully on its Moto2 project. However, the squad has said that it plans a MotoGP comeback in 2012.

With Valencia’s season finale looming, the one-bike outfit hopes for a more positive result after Japan’s Hiroshi Aoyama could manage no more than a 12th place finish at Estoril on Sunday.

“It is a pity that the team cannot continue,” commented Aoyama, who turned 25 last Monday. “I had a really good time with them and I want to thank the team for all they did for me.”

For next year, Interwetten Team Manager Daniel M. Epp has said that he will be focussing on the Moto2 efforts of 24-year-old Swiss charger Thomas Lüthi.
