Bautista return confirmed for Portugal

28 April 2011

MotoGP medical officials have given Álvaro Bautista the green light to return to racing in Portugal this weekend. The 26-year-old was deemed fit to race following extensive check-ups at the Estoril circuit, with the Suzuki rider having been examined by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sarmento.

Bautista was forced to skip his home Grand Prix at Jerez following a season-opening Qatar crash which broke his left femur (thigh bone) only 41 days ago.

“I am really pleased I have been given the ‘OK’ to ride, but I now I must see what it feels like to get on a MotoGP bike,” he said this afternoon. “I have done a bit of Supermotard riding and that felt good, but that is nothing like riding the GSV-R.

“I will see how things go in Friday practice and we will make a decision about the rest of the weekend after that.”

If Bautista is finally unable to race , Suzuki reserve rider Nobuatsu Aoki will step in.
