Pramac Racing's Loris Capirossi was the quickest man during the final practice session of the weekend at Estoril on Saturday morning, posting a time over half a second quicker than reigning Champion Jorge Lorenzo. The factory Ducati pairing of Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi followed in third and fourth, continuing the wet weather promise they displayed at Jerez.
The track surface was predominantly damp after overnight rainfall, leaving riders with the task of gathering as much data as possible ahead of qualifying. The Repsol Honda trio were all within half a second of each other behind the top four, with Casey Stoner edging ahead of team-mates Andrea Dovizioso and Dani Pedrosa.
Toni Elias was the next man on the timing screens in seventh, with Friday pace-setter Marco Simoncelli back in ninth place. Randy de Puniet ended the session in tenth place, some six seconds off the pace of his Pramac team-mate. Both Tech 3 Yamaha machines were outside the top ten, with Colin Edwards occupying 12th and Britain’s Cal Crutchlow back in 16th place.
Saturday’s qualifying session begins at 1:55pm local time (BST)
