Honda Gresini's Marco Simoncelli remained fastest as the riders took to the Circuit de Catalunya for a final time ahead of this afternoon’s Catalan Grand Prix. The Italian set a time of 1:55.292 in wet conditions, leading compatriot Valentino Rossi by little more than a tenth of a second, while American Nicky Hayden completed the top three.
A slippery track surface created problems for a few riders, with grip levels remaining low throughout the 20-minute session. Andrea Dovizioso, Cal Crutchlow and Casey Stoner were next up on the timesheets, while the recovering Álvaro Bautista claimed seventh for Rizla Suzuki. Ben Spies grabbed eighth on his works Yamaha, just ahead of Randy de Puniet and Héctor Barberá completed the top ten.
It has also been confirmed that Colin Edwards will not be taking part in today’s race, with the American failing to pass a medical test following his Friday practice fall.
