Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner continued to set the pace during this morning’s rain-affected warm-up session at Silverstone, leading the way ahead of reigning Champion Jorge Lorenzo. The Australian set a time of 2:19.071 in the treacherous conditions, some 17 seconds slower than his pole position lap yesterday afternoon. Over a second further back, Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli completed the top three.
A heavy downpour prior to the session created an extremely slippery track surface, with riders lapping considerably slower than they did in qualifying. Ben Spies was best of the rest behind the top three runners, edging out Repsol Honda man Andrea Dovizioso. Suzuki’s Álvaro Bautista was next up in sixth place, narrowly ahead of Karel Abraham who was almost five seconds slower than pace-setter Stoner.
Works Ducati duo Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden had to settle for eighth and ninth respectively, while Toni Elias rounded out the top ten for Team LCR.
The race begins at 1pm local time (BST)
