Andrea Dovizioso insists he can still fight for this year’s MotoGP title, despite sitting 33 points behind Repsol Honda team-mate and current championship leader Casey Stoner. The Italian reached the chequered flag in second place at Mugello on Sunday afternoon, enjoying battles with race winner Jorge Lorenzo and Stoner en route to his fourth podium finish of the year so far.
"The characteristic of the track is very hard to do 33 laps and to keep this pace," Dovizioso commented. "In the middle of the race I thought the display was broken, because I saw ‘48.8’ every lap so it was something I didn’t expect!
"I want to say thank you to the fans because they gave me a lot of sport, it is something difficult to explain. It is very, very special, thank you very much. Thank you to the team because we started very strongly this weekend, we were working really hard.
"The championship is still open and now we are very fast, especially at this track as it was always difficult for me. We did a good job and we’ll keep pushing."
