2011 Czech Republic MotoGP Grand Prix: Friday first free practice results

Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa led the way during the first practice session of the weekend at Brno, delivering a time of 1.56.328 to finish comfortably ahead of his rivals. The Spaniard led team-mate Casey Stoner by almost a full second as the on-track action came to a close, while Marco Simoncelli grabbed third despite a crash.

A warm Friday morning in the Czech Republic allowed for plenty of constructive mileage, with the adjusted tyre regulations coming into play for the first time. Reigning Champion Jorge Lorenzo was best of the rest as the session concluded, placing his factory Yamaha machine ahead of Italy's Andrea Dovizioso and team-mate Ben Spies.

John Hopkins began a positive return to MotoGP racing in seventh place, outpacing fellow Suzuki rider Álvaro Bautista by 24 thousandths of a second. Tech 3 Yamaha claimed the final top ten positions, with Colin Edwards edging out Cal Crutchlow.

Second practice begins at 2.10pm local time (BST +1)
