Ben Spies, one of three American riders in the field, has topped the warm-up session ahead of Sunday’s Indianapolis MotoGP. The Yamaha rider, who has qualified second to Casey Stoner, led the way from Dani Pedrosa and the Australian.
With his best effort coming in the shape of 1:39.621, Spies topped the timesheets as third-placed qualifier Jorge Lorenzo finished warm-up in fourth, ahead of Nicky Hayden. Marco Simoncelli managed sixth, with Andrea Dovizioso and third national representative Colin Edwards completing the top eight.
After enduring a disastrous qualifying session which left him 14th on the grid, Ducati’s Valentino Rossi managed a lap time a tenth of a second quicker.
The 2011 Indianapolis MotoGP begins at 2pm local time (BST -5)
