Tomizawa tribute day held in France

15 September 2011

The Technomag-CIP team staged its tribute to Shoya Tomizawa on Tuesday, with 5 September having marked the first anniversary of the Japanese rider’s death after the 2010 Moto2 race at Misano. Tomizawa was 19 years old.

The event – named ‘Shoya’s Day’ – saw team personnel and fellow riders group together at Pole Mécanique d'Alès, the team's home track. Riders who attended included Anthony West and Hiroshi Aoyama.

An exposition dedicated to the Tomizawa saw a selection of tributes on display, received from fans around the world, alongside a memorial stone which was unveiled by Christophe Rivenq, the Mayor of Alès, in front of Tomizawa’s parents and an emotional crowd.

Proceeds from a track day totalled to €15,000 (£13,000), with the full sum being handed to the Tomizawa family.
