2011 MotoGP Grand Prix: Saturday qualifying results

Casey Stoner carried over his strong practice speed to seal the top spot in Saturday's qualifying session at MotorLand Aragón, posting a time of 1:48.451 to lead Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa by 0.296 seconds. The pair finished comfortably ahead next man Ben Spies, the Yamaha rider seven tenths adrift of the ultimate pace.

Ultimate pole-sitter Stoner looked at ease as soon as he left the pit lane this afternoon, remaining in control throughout the hour. Reigning Champion Jorge Lorenzo, who is aiming to repeat his Misano success, could only manage fourth, trailing team-mate Spies by almost a full second as the chequered flag came out.

Andrea Dovizioso and Marco Simoncelli were grouped together in fifth and sixth respectively, with Nicky Hayden the leading Ducati runner narrowly behind. Cardion's Karel Abraham edged ahead of Hirohi Aoyama for eighth, with Randy de Puniet rounding out a top ten that failed to feature Valentino Rossi (13th).
