Championship leader Casey Stoner was the fastest man during this morning’s warm-up session at MotorLand Aragón, heading the order with a personal best time of 1:49.651. The Australian led fellow Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa by 0.347 seconds, with Ben Spies ensuring a repeat of the top three positions in qualifying.
With Stoner ‘feeling great’ on-track this weekend, the remainder of the field could be facing a struggle if they want to claim victory later today. Chief title rival Jorge Lorenzo endured another tough session en route to fifth, ending up between fourth place man Marco Simoncelli and Pramac’s Randy de Puniet as the session came to a close.
Colin Edwards and Cal Crutchlow gave Tech 3 the right to be optimistic ahead of this afternoon’s race, claiming seventh and eighth ahead of works Ducati rider Nicky Hayden. Suzuki's Álvaro Bautista rounded out the top ten covered by 1.686 seconds, while Valentino Rossi once again had a quiet session on his way to 11th.
The race begins at 2pm local time (BST +1)
