Casey Stoner moved back ahead during the final practice session of the weekend at Motegi on Friday, topping the timesheets with a time of 1:46.162. The Australian finished just ahead of Repsol Honda team-mates Andrea Dovizioso and Dani Pedrosa, with proceedings dominated by the Japanese squad once again.
Dry conditions allowed for plenty of time improvements to be made, with Marco Simoncelli best of the rest in fourth place, also on Honda machinery. Reigning Champion Jorge Loreno and his Yamaha team-mate Ben Spies were next up in fifth and sixth respectively, with Valentino Rossi gave Ducati in close company.
Suzuki’s Álvaro Bautista featured inside the top ten for the first time this weekend with his personal best effort, placing his bike narrowly in front of Nicky Hayden and Randy de Puniet who rounded out the top ten. Category newcomers Damian Cudlin and Shinichi Itoh completed the order, with the latter suffering a small crash at Turn 3.
Qualifying begins at 1.55pm local time (BST +8)
