Hayden subs for injured Rossi in test

6 October 2011

Ducati has verified that Valentino Rossi has suffered a hairline fracture and arthrodesis of the first and second phalanx of his left pinky finger following his crash in Sunday’s Japanese MotoGP.

The fall aggravated an injury sustained at Assen 16 years ago, with the full extent of the injuries only being discovered following additional x-rays on Tuesday.

As a result, team-mate Nicky Hayden has been drafted in to perform Thursday’s test of the GP12 bike at Jerez, using the last of eight permitted days that the team has this year to run its 2012 bike.

Ducati stresses that Rossi’s presence in the Australian race is not in doubt.
