Following his non-attendance in Sunday’s Australian MotoGP, it has been confirmed that outgoing World Champion Jorge Lorenzo will also miss the upcoming round in Malaysia this weekend. The Yamaha rider was taken to hospital for plastic surgery to the fourth finger of his left-hand after a high-side accident in the warm-up session.
In a statement released by Yamaha, Lorenzo’s operation is described as ‘successful’, with a surgeon having been able to save the nerves and tendons of the injured fourth finger in which no functionality will be lost.
The statement concludes:
‘Unfortunately an extended recovery time will be required so Jorge will not race in Sepang for the Malaysian Grand Prix. A decision on the Valencia Grand Prix will be made depending on Jorge's condition after his return to Barcelona.’
