Dani Pedrosa outpaced Repsol Honda team-mate Casey Stoner by the slim margin of 0.029 seconds to take pole position for Sunday’s Malaysian Grand Prix, despite suffering an early fall at the Kuala Lumpur venue. Andrea Dovizioso completed the top three runners at the end of the qualifying session, making it a factory Honda 1-2-3.
Further hot and humid conditions allowed Pedrosa to get close to his fastest time of the weekend so far, but the Spaniard could not quite eclipse his overall personal best effort set in yesterday's second practice session. Tech 3 Yamaha's Colin Edwards was next up behind Dovizioso, the squad his Italian rival will be switching to in 2012.
Marco Simoncelli and Nicky Hayden earned the right to form the back of the second row tomorrow afternoon, with Hiroshi Aoyama and Álvaro Bautista just behind. Valentino Rossi put the second works Ducati in ninth place courtesy of his quickest attempt, while Britain's Cal Crutchlow rounded out the top ten.
Sunday's Race begins at 4pm local time (BST +7)
