2011 Malaysian MotoGP Grand Prix: Saturday qualifying results

Yamaha Factory rider has opted to withdraw from this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix in Kuala Lumpur, with the American rider increasing the effects of the injuries he picked up at Phillip Island after two more falls. Having discussed the risks with the Italian squad, it has also been decided that the 27-year-old will skip Monday's test.

"Following consultation between Yamaha management and the rider it has been jointly decided that it would be wise to not participate in the race to avoid the risk of further injury," a Yamaha statement explained on Saturday evening. "Spies will also miss Monday’s 1000cc test in Sepang."

"This decision will allow Spies the optimum chance of recovery before the important final race of the season and subsequent 1000cc test at Valencia in two weeks time."
