Stoner collects championship trophy in Valencia

7 November 2011

The City of the Arts and Sciences was the venue on Sunday night as Casey Stoner was confirmed as 2011 MotoGP World Champion in Valencia. The ceremony followed a spectacular finish to the season-ending race and also saw Germany’s Stefan Bradl and Spain’s Nico Terol crowned as respective Moto2 and 125cc title winners.

The setting for Sunday’s presentation was the Auditori Mar Rojo de L’Oceanogràfic, with the event being shown live by some broadcasters. Presenting were Gavin Emmett and Izaskun Ruiz, joined on stage by a selection of personalities including Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta and FIM President Vito Ippolito.

As well as the championship trophies, other prizes included the BMW M Award for the best MotoGP qualifier, which resulted in Champion Stoner taking home a road car. Also on offer was the Shoya Yomizawa Fair Play Award and the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, which went to Tech 3’s Cal Crutchlow.
