Hayden returns home after operation

8 February 2012

MotoGP’s Nicky Hayden has returned home following surgery to rectify the niggling shoulder injury which plagued the American for the opening test session of the year.

The MotoGP fraternity gathered for its opening test of 2012 at the start of last week, although the Ducati rider was forced to skip much of his running as the right shoulder continued to cause pain. On Monday, he flew directly from Kuala Lumpur to California to undergo arthroscopic surgery, described as ‘successful’ by doctors.

“It’s a setback but, all things considered, I’m pretty happy with how things went,” he said on Wednesday. “It’s good that it was possible to do everything by ’scope and the pain’s not too bad. The problem should be fixed now and I look forward to being able to help out the team as soon as possible.”

Hayden - World Champion of 2006 - is not expected to miss the next Sepang test, which begins in just under three weeks’ time.
