Cal Crutchlow has walked away from a large post-race testing accident in Spain. The Englishman, who started third and finished fifth in Sunday’s Catalan MotoGP, was fortunate to avoid major injury after flying off the circuit at Turn 4, the Repsol Hairpin.
Following on from the baking hot weather conditions last week, Barcelona and the neighbouring Circuit de Catalunya were subject to a spectacular thunderstorm on Sunday night; this left a distinctly damp race track for when testing started this morning.
“Massive, massive crash on the second lap,” Tech 3 rider Crutchlow posted on Twitter just before 2pm local time (BST +1). (It was my) second lap, wet patch under the bridge that no-one could see. 200kph…took a lot of skin off my arse, back and shoulders but am okay! Went back out as we have a job to do. So sorry to boys as bike was totalled.”
Sunday’s race was won by Jorge Lorenzo, helping to extend the 2010 Champion’s lead in the standings before MotoGP moves to The Netherlands at the end of the month.
