Dovizioso fastest in Catalunya test
5 June 2012 – Tech 3's Andrea Dovizioso posted the fastest time during Monday's MotoGP test at the Circuit de Catalunya, fresh from his maiden Yamaha podium finish. The Italian, who crossed the line behind Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa on Sunday afternoon, posted a time of 1:41.997 to lead factory Yamaha rider Ben Spies by 0.146 seconds.
Overnight rain made it difficult for the entire field as the track action got underway early in the morning, with Dovizioso's team-mate Cal Crutchlow suffering a nasty crash after setting just one flying lap. Luckily for the Briton, who has been impressing throughout the 2012 campaign, he escaped with just minor bruising and skin tears.
The times soon began to improve along with the track conditions, with a trio of Spaniards making up positions three to five at the end of the day. Hector Barbera, Álvaro Bautista and Dani Pedrosa all did enough to outpace reigning Champion Casey Stoner, while Crutchlow recovered well to claim seventh position.
Sunday's winner Jorge Lorenzo was next up, completing a relatively quiet day of work, while Stefan Bradl and Nicky Hayden denied Valentino Rossi of a top ten placement.
