Casey Stoner took advantage of a drying track to take pole from tomorrow’s German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring. The Australian rider set a lap in the dying stages of the session to knock Yamaha’s Ben Spies off the front spot. Stoner’s Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa completes the front row.
Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Cal Crutchlow managed to set a time good enough for fourth, ahead of the current championship leader Jorge Lorenzo. Local rider Stefan Bradl managed to finish the session in sixth for his LCR Honda team.
The difficult conditions caught out several riders with Michele Pirro, Danilo Petrucci, Mattia Pasini and Héctor Barberá all crashing out.
Lorenzo leads the title ahead of last year’s champion Stoner going into the eighth round of the MotoGP season.
