Pedrosa wins dramatic race at Sachsenring
8 July 2012 – Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa took his first win of the season at the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring. The Spaniard finished ahead of countryman Jorge Lorenzo and the Tech 3 Yamaha of Andrea Dovizioso. Pedrosa’s team-mate Casey Stroner crashed out dramatically on the final lap, when battling for the lead.
Pedrosa led from the start in front of Stoner and the Yamaha Factory Racing duo of Ben Spies and Jorge Lorenzo but it wasn’t longer before the Australian moved into the lead and set the pace.
Further back the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 duo of Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Dovizioso battled along with Nicky Hayden and Gresini’s Michele Pirro. Spies later ran wide allowing Lorenzo into third place which allowed the Tech 3 pair to close up the American.
12 laps to the finish Pedrosa passed his team-mate for the lead and the enthralling battle between the two continued. Crutchlow also attempted to pass his team-mate but ran wide in doing so and lost ground to Dovizioso as well as being passed by Bautista.
The thrilling battle for the lead between the Repsol Honda’s continued into the final lap but coming into the final corners of the race, Stoner dramatically crashed out and threw away second palce to his title rival Lorenzo.
A win for Pedrosa elevates him to second in the championship, 14 points behind fellow Spaniard Lorenzo. Stoner’s no-score drops him to third, four points behind his Honda team-mate.
