Ducati hopes for strong home race at Mugello

11 July 2012

The Ducati team will be looking for a strong showing as MotoGP heads to their home race at Mugello, Italy this weekend. The squad has struggled to match the pace of key rivals Honda and Yamaha so far this season, with a best result of second coming from seven-time Champion Valentino Rossi at a rain-hit Le Mans circuit.

The Italian rider has always gone well at Mugello, winning the race seven times in a row from 2002 to 2008.

“It’s the Italian Grand Prix, so everyone, including myself, must make an extra effort to do well in our home race,” said Rossi. “It’s one of the nicest tracks in the world, in terms of the layout of the circuit, the atmosphere and all the fans that come to watch us and support us. We really have to try to do our best.”

Nicky Hayden’s results at the track haven’t been as strong but the American has scored a podium there, when he beat Rossi to the championship in 2006.

“It hasn’t been an easy track for me with Ducati, but I like it a lot,” the 2006 Champion explained. “We need to try to put the whole weekend together and do a good result on Sunday, when it really counts.”
