Ducati confirms new engine for Laguna Seca

19 July 2012

Ducati will be running its newest version of engine as MotoGP regroups in the United States next weekend. The Laguna Seca race will mark the first of two in the country, with Indianapolis then hosting its own annual fixture on 19 August.

After the last race at Mugello, Ducati tested a number of modified parts at the Italian circuit and has now decided to go ahead and run its latest powerplant at the next event.

“Now we are working on both the chassis and engine drivability,” explains Filippo Preziosi, General & Technical Director of Ducati Corse. “The problem is really huge. Last weekend was a step, but we know we have to work very hard to improve.”

The championship is still led by Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo, with Dani Pedrosa now second for Honda and 19 points adrift. The highest placed Ducati rider is multiple former Champion Valentino Rossi, who is sixth overall and 103 points in arrears of Lorenzo.
