Dovizioso now worried about Yamaha seat
30 July 2012 – Andrea Dovizioso is targeting a spot in the Yamaha works team for the 2013 MotoGP season, but admits that his chances are probably fading. The Italian, who joined the Tech 3 satellite squad this year, had been dropped by Honda at the end of 2012.
Dovizioso had rated his chances of becoming Jorge Lorenzo’s team-mate next season, with Ben Spies leaving Yamaha, although Valentino Rossi has now become hot favourite to switch back from Ducati and rejoin the Lin Jarvis-run outfit.
“This is what I expected, but it looks like Valentino is really close,” Dovizioso said of his own plans to join Yamaha. “So I don’t know exactly, it’s not fixed.
“This is really bad for me because I swapped to Yamaha because I believed I could find a place in the factory team.
“We’ve done the best we can this year and we’ve had four podiums, but it looks like this is not enough to get that place - but we’ll see in the next two weeks.”
At Laguna Seca on Sunday, Dovizioso finished in a solid fourth position.
