Elías replaces Barberá again for Brno

22 August 2012

Pramac has confirmed that Spain’s Toni Elías will continue to substitute for compatriot Héctor Barberá as MotoGP continues in the Czech Republic this weekend.

Having broken his left fibula and tibia less than a month earlier, Barberá travelled to Indianapolis last week in order to find out whether or not he would be fit enough to take part in the latest round of the championship. However, during the first practice session he was thrown from his bike at the final corner and fractured several vertebrae.

This leaves Elías to ride for a third event this year, after Laguna Seca and Indianapolis. Barberá now aims for a proper return at the San Marino MotoGP in mid-September.

“I'm really happy to go to the Czech Republic in Pramac colours and of course I am honoured to be confirmed as a substitute," Elías says. "This will be my third race in Ducati green and white and I have to admit that the feeling, both with the bike and the team, has grown considerably since the race at Laguna Seca."

Also missing the Czech event is Ducati's Nicky Hayden, who was injured last time out. Ducati has already confirmed that no replacement rider will take part.
