Dovizioso ‘so happy’ with Ducati deal

Dovizioso ‘so happy’ with Ducati deal

24 August 2012

On Thursday it was announced that Andrea Dovizioso would be moving to Ducati from the start of 2013. The Italian had been a favourite for a Yamaha seat prior to Valentino Rossi’s change of heart, but now ends up replacing the multiple Champion.

Dovizioso has spent this MotoGP campaign with Tech 3 Yamaha, but next year will move back to his first works outfit since Honda, with whom he won at Donington Park in 2009. He is particularly delighted with Ducati’s recent buy-out deal from Audi.

“Yesterday we signed and it was a big decision,” says Dovizioso, now 26 and hailing from the town of Forlimpopoli. “I’m so happy and so excited to be part of the project with Ducati and Audi. I spoke with Del Torchio and Preziosi and they explained the project to me as well as Audi coming in, so it looks like there are many things to get a result.

“Everybody knows Ducati’s situation and I’m confident about us working together to get a result. I can’t say any more as nobody can say how the bike is and how Ducati is if you don’t try.”

Dovizioso was 125cc World Champion in 2004, then finished runner-up in the 250cc class of 2007 before making his MotoGP debut a year later.
