Rossi doubting ability to beat Lorenzo

12 September 2012

Valentino Rossi claims he may not be able to match Jorge Lorenzo’s when he returns to Yamaha. The Italian, who has spent two struggling seasons with Ducati, will in 2013 re-unite with the Spaniard with whom he shared a frosty relationship two years ago.

“This adventure with Ducati was very difficult from the start,” Rossi says in a video interview with the official MotoGP website.

“To take the decision for next year was very hard because Ducati I know a lot of great people at Ducati…we are not able to create enough grip from the front tyre or enough contact with the ground; that was the biggest problem from the Valencia test in 2010 and, unfortunately, after almost two years we have more or less the same problem.”

Moving on to discuss Yamaha and Lorenzo ahead of next year, Rossi continues:

“I’m not sure I can be as fast as Lorenzo with the Yamaha. I think we will have less problems than in the past - Lorenzo was very fair with my comeback. The important thing is to have fun riding the bike and have the chance to fight for the good positions.”

On Wednesday, Ducati has finalised its 2013 line-up by signing Andrea Iannone at the Pramac satellite team. He will be joined by Ben Spies, who Rossi replaces at Yamaha.
